Light in the ocean is like light in no other place on Earth. It is a world that is visibly different from our beaten terrestrial planet world, and one that marine animals, plants, and microbes are adapted to in exceeding ways. Light behaves very differently once it moves from air into water.
How far does light travel in the ocean?
Sunlight entering the water may travel or so 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) into the ocean under the right conditions, but on that point is rarely any big light beyond 200 meters (656 feet). The ocean is divided into deuce-ace zones supported on depth and light level. The upper 200 meters (656 feet) of the body of water is called the euphotic, or "sunlight," zone.
Visible light penetrates into the ocean, but former erstwhile the sea surface, light is chop-chop weakened by scattering and absorption. Visible pastel has wavelengths that range between 400 and 700 nanometers (one rank of a meter). The more than particles that are in the water, the more the light is scattered.
